Both names describe the same job: record what is on the monitor, with or without audio, to a file you can play. The vs is about who published the file, whether you can read the source, and where you fetch the installer. We did not make either program. We point at ShareX. Official Bandicam lives on bandicam.com. We do not clone that homepage. Skip Softonic, CNET, and unofficial wrappers of either name.
The button on this page goes to Install on the home page. Home is Screen recorder. The winget box on home is the live command. How to run a take on Windows sits on How to screen record on Windows. The capture verb sits on Record screen. Trust notes sit on Screen recorder download safe.
| The screen recorder we document | Bandicam | |
|---|---|---|
| License | GPL. You can read it in the repo. | Commercial Windows product. We do not reprint their license or a price. |
| File host | GitHub Releases. Winget id ShareX.ShareX. | Official site bandicam.com. We do not host their installer. |
| Source | Public on GitHub. Repo ShareX/ShareX. | Closed. You get the program they publish. You do not get the source. |
| Who published | ShareX contributors. We did not make it. | Bandicam Company. Official Bandicam can sit first for its own name. |
| Where it runs | Windows desktop. Capture stays on this PC unless you turn on an upload task. | Windows desktop on their official page. We do not reprint extra platform claims. |
Read the table as shape, not a score. Screen recorder vs Bandicam does not rank a winner. We describe license, file host, source, publisher, and where it runs. If you typed Bandicam because you already want bandicam.com, go there. If you want the GitHub Windows build we document, stay on this path.
The screen recorder we document
This is ShareX. Windows. GPL. We did not make it. Official files live on GitHub Releases. The repo is ShareX/ShareX. Their site is getsharex.com. This page still points at GitHub. This site does not host the installer.
Paste this into Windows Terminal or Command Prompt:
winget install -e --id ShareX.ShareXCopy
If winget is missing, install App Installer from Microsoft, then paste the command again. Official Microsoft links only. The id is ShareX.ShareX. GitHub Releases is the other path: setup x64 exe, or portable x64 zip. Latest live tag observed is v21.0.0. Steam and Microsoft Store listings exist on their README. We do not make those the CTA. More of the live list sits on Screen recorder releases. LICENSE sits on Screen recorder GitHub.
ShareX is a capture tool that includes Screen recording, stills, scrolling capture, and after-capture tasks. Recording uses FFmpeg. The first take may fetch FFmpeg inside the app. Hotkeys are set in Hotkey settings. We will not invent a default key. After capture can stay on save to disk. Uploads are optional and off until you turn them on.
Bandicam, said plainly
Bandicam is the name people already know from bandicam.com. It is a Windows screen recorder sold by Bandicam Company. It is not open source. Official Bandicam can sit number 1 for its own name. That is expected. We do not reprint their screenshots, their pricing table, a watermark timer, or a megabyte size. Those change on their side. If you arrived because you typed Bandicam and you wanted their file, their official site is the place for that brand.
We will not write install steps for Bandicam. We will not ship a twin page for it. This comparison is the map. The install we document is ShareX from GitHub and winget.
How to choose without a scoreboard
Want source you can read, a winget id, and a GitHub release list with a setup exe and a portable zip? Install ShareX. Want the brand you already searched, with the product page they maintain? Use official Bandicam at bandicam.com. You can keep both bookmarks. Screen recorder vs Bandicam does not demand that you delete the other. It is a map.
We do not stamp a quality winner. Codecs, hardware encoding, and file size depend on settings you pick on the day. ShareX records through FFmpeg. Bandicam settings live on their site. We will not invent fps caps or bitrate rows. If you need a specific encoder flag, read the tool you installed, not a third-party recap.
Fetch is part of the map. We document GitHub Releases for ShareX. We document bandicam.com for Bandicam. A search result that wraps either name on Softonic or CNET is still the wrong file host. Take the project own page.
Local Windows, two publishers
Both programs capture on the PC in front of you. That is the overlap. Privacy here is location plus source. ShareX is GPL. The LICENSE is in the repo. Bandicam is a commercial product. We do not pretend their license is GPL. We do not reprint it.
Accounts are a second honest row. ShareX does not ask you to create a login to record the screen. Winget talks to Windows Package Manager. GitHub Releases is a file list. Optional upload destinations in ShareX are a later setting, not a required account to start a take. Bandicam accounts, stores, and paid tiers sit on their side. We will not write those steps.
File size is a third honest row we will not fake. ShareX setup exe and portable zip change by tag. The live home list has shown setup-x64.exe and portable-x64.zip. Bandicam size sits on their official site. Third-party mirrors go stale. We will not stamp a fake cap on this table.
What this page covers
This page compares shapes. How to screen record on Windows has its own article. Record screen has its own article. Download safe has its own article. We do not ship a mirror of bandicam.com, a star rating, or a numbered list that claims to beat their brand. Home already covers the screen recorder page. Screen brightness is a different job and is not this comparison.
We did not make ShareX. We did not make Bandicam. Softonic, CNET, and unofficial wrappers of either name are the wrong file host. GitHub Releases is the file host we link for ShareX. Their official site is the host for Bandicam.

No. Official Bandicam lives on bandicam.com. We wrote a comparison. We point at ShareX. We do not clone their homepage, their screenshots, or their extra pages.
